Lucy Goodale attached herself to my heart.
This woman, 180 years gone from this earth, stands for all I long to be. A woman so devoted to God that she would entertain notions and possibilities beyond her imagination and understanding because of her core-deep trust in her Sovereign, Almighty God. Savior-led and Spirit-empowered, Lucy Goodale took her Father-God’s hand and stepped into an uncertain future with certain clarity of purpose–to help carry the Truth to the Sandwich Islands.
Before I could even consider the unknown, the thought of parting ways with the known would have buckled my knees and immobilized my tongue when it came time to say “Yes” to God. Not Lucy.
Lucy agreed to a meeting her cousin would arrange in her father’s home with Asa Thurston. Less than three weeks later, she said “I do” to Asa for the purpose of giving him the wife he needed to pursue the missionary work burning as a holy fire in his soul.
Lucy chose to live in the privilege of walking with and serving a God with big plans.
This is the breed of woman, brand of believer, I want to be.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
I want to be ready, not reluctant, for the more God has in mind for me. Willing, not wary, to place my trust in Him, who isn’t containable, but is completely trustworthy and faithful, even when it means stepping into an unknown.
